The Nelaton Butterfly Probe / Grooved Director offers several advantages for surgeons in multiple fields. Its principal use is to guide probes and scalpels and protect underlying tissues, such as nerves.

For this purpose, the instrument features a double-ended profile suitable to carry on different functions. For instance, the butterfly end has a central notch that helps to isolate the lingual frenum and guide probes.

The shank of the Nelaton Butterfly Probe / Grooved Director, otherwise, is useful to guide cutting instruments. The distal tip is ideal to probe certain cavities where tiny probes aren’t efficient.
