El Mazo de Partsch ofrece un amplio margen de ventajas quirúrgicas. Su función principal consiste en martillar las plataformas de impacto de diversos instrumentos, a fin de ejecutar procedimientos de osteotomía e injertos óseos.

Para tal fin, el instrumento cuenta con una cabeza cilíndrica provista de dos extremos. Además, ambos exhiben superficies ligeramente convexas para realizar golpes precisos. De tal modo, el cirujano puede impactar desde huesos frágiles hasta resistentes usando este modelo de mazo.
