The Kilner Alar Hook consists of a central flat handle and a hook-type working end. The handle has coarse horizontal ridges that prevent slippage.

Additionally, the alar hook features a sharp double pronged tip. The tip grants maximum nostril retraction and optimal exposure of the surgical field.

Also, the alar hook provides vision of the alar cartilage during an eversion technique. This feature decreases the need of further incisions.
