La Cucharilla de Enucleación de Wells brinda un amplio rango de beneficios en el acto operatorio. Su función principal consiste en extraer, junto a otros instrumentos, los contenidos de la órbita.

Para tal fin, el instrumento ostenta una cucharilla provista de una muesca en su borde superior. De tal modo, dicha ranura es útil para acomodar el nervio óptico y el paquete vasculonervioso del ojo. Luego de ello, la enucleación puede tener lugar sin riesgos mayores.
