The Cooley Mitral Valve Retractor is a heart surgery instrument that has specific uses during mitral valve plasty and mitral valve replacement.
Firstly, the blade has a fenestrated design and comes with a central wire. This feature allows surgeons to horizontally retract the edge of the left atrium. As a result, the surgical staff can visualize the mitral valve from a vertical perspective.
In addition, the retractor’s handle has a hollow profile and comes with vertical ridges. The ridges enhance gripping and avoid slippage.
