The Bergmann Sponge Holding Forcep is a scissor-like, hand-held instrument that offers multiple advantages. Its principal function is to soak up fluids to maintain a clear view of the surgical field.
For this purpose, the instrument features a pair of oval jaws for securely manipulating swabs, drapes, and gauzes. Moreover, they have fenestrations and serrations that enhance grasping and prevent dropping dressings into the operating site.
In addition, a pair of long shanks enable surgeons to perform deep surgical approaches. These shanks comprise a ratchet system that assists in self-retaining the jaws.
