The sharp tips of the retracting forceps prevent slippage and are useful for handling fibrous membranes, sheaths, and tissues. On the other hand, blunt ones prevent tissue damage and are ideal for delicate structures.

The unique curve of the jaws also ensures smooth placement. In addition, the smooth outer built of the instrument protects adjacent soft tissue from damage.
